Let’s Play & BC Wheelchair Basketball Society

BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (BCWBS) provides wheelchair basketball programs across BC and is focused on delivering programs that strengthen the sport from the grassroots level to high performance athletes. Founded in 1983, they have grown to now include Let’s Play which has a focus on physical literacy in children 0-14.
Nadine Barbisan, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is currently working as Program Manager for BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (BCWBS). Nadine was born and raised in New Westminster BC and graduated from Douglas College with a Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation in 2014. Through her job with BCWBS Nadine runs the Bridging the Gap program that helps with introducing wheelchair basketball to new participants of all ages. She also works with Jr development, recruitment across the province and the Let’s Play program. Nadine believes sport and recreation are very important and has played field hockey and lacrosse for most of her life. She has worked and volunteered in the adapted sports world for over 7 years and has a passion for providing people of all abilities the opportunity to play sport and be active.
Marni Abbott-Peter has enjoyed a distinguished career as one of the premier wheelchair basketball players in the world. A former athlete turned coach; she is a leader and advocate for Paralympic sport both on and off the court. Her main focus is now on physical literacy and inclusive play, as she works to develop play opportunities for children with physical disabilities and mobility impairments. Marni has enjoyed a distinguished career as one of the premier wheelchair basketball players in the world.
