Taking Control of Your Life with Victoria Disability Resource Centre
December 12, 2022 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm PST
Join Wendy Cox and Wendy Brooks for their presentation on the Victoria Disability Resource Centre on December 12th from 12 PM – 1 PM PT. This presentation will focus on the history of the Victoria Disability Resource Centre, its Mission and Philosophy, its programs and services, and where it wants to be in the future.
Wendy Brooks has provided support for individuals applying for Persons with Disabilities at VDRC since March 2018. She has a Bachelor of Social Degree and a Master of Education Degree, Adult Education, both from the University of Victoria and is a Registered Social Worker. Wendy has been a social worker since 1993 and has practiced in the areas of children, families, adult probation, and adults with disabilities. Wendy works part time for the VDRC as their Information & Referral Coordinator, and usually brings her Shih Tzu dog Susie to the office to hang out with humans.
Wendy Cox was born up Island and moved to Victoria in 2004, when she started working at the Victoria Disability Resource Centre. She has been involved with the centre in various capacities since then, including being on the board of directors. In 2018, she got the role of Executive Director and loves what she does. Wendy herself lives with a disability, after acquiring a spinal cord injury due to a fall in 1996, and closely aligns her life with the Independent Living Philosophy. Although Wendy believes in autonomy for persons with disabilities, her life is ruled by her Chihuahua cross, Jasper (and she wouldn’t change it for anything).
Please note that this live event will be recorded and streamed to Facebook and YouTube. It will remain available for our community to enjoy after the session ends. Closed captioning for this event will be available on these platforms.
