We’re hosting a Virtual Volunteer Celebration on Wednesday, May 1, at 4:30 PM, and we hope you can join us! We’ll recognize our Volunteer of the Year Award recipients and celebrate this year’s theme: “Volunteers Make Waves!”

🗓 Save the Date: May 1 at 4:30 PM

We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight

Lauren Foote

Lauren has been part of the Disability Foundation family for years, but her contributions to ConnecTra truly stand out. From moderating Accessible Community Forums to supporting event fundraising and outreach, Lauren brings her passion for accessibility and connection into every role she takes on. A physical geography grad and now a Master’s student in planning, Lauren combines lived experience, academic research, and volunteerism to help build more inclusive and resilient communities.

She says what keeps her coming back is the kindness and support of the team: “Everyone treated me so well… so kind and so welcoming.”

Jee Lam

Jee first joined the Disability Foundation volunteer team through the Abilities Expo, and from there, dove into summer programs like BCMOS hiking, kayaking, and DIGA gardening. As a busy Kinesiology student, she found that volunteering helped her slow down, recharge, and connect with others in meaningful ways. One of her most memorable days was walking along Spanish Banks with a TrailRider user, swapping stories by the sea.

From garden chats to ocean paddles, Jee says the real reward is “the greater understanding” she’s gained by hearing people’s lived experiences — and being part of a community that values connection just as much as she does.
