Mental Health and the Duty to Accommodate
April 14 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm PT

Join the Community Legal Assistance Society BC on April 14th from 12-1pm to learn about the BC Human Rights Code and how it protects you.
This presentation canvases the definition of discrimination under the BC Human Rights Code, and the duty to accommodate in the areas protected by the Code. There will be a focus specifically on discrimination on the basis of mental disability (“mental disability” is the terminology used by the Code).
Alison Moore is a lawyer in the BC Human Rights Clinic. She provides advice and representation to people who have filed or are considering filing a human rights complaint. Prior to joining CLAS, Alison practiced criminal law in Alberta, where she regularly appeared in Provincial Court and the Court of King’s Bench. Alison has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Alberta and a law degree from the University of Victoria. In her spare time, Alison enjoys singing and swimming in the ocean.

Participation in any of the aforementioned organizations is subject to the observance of the Disability Foundation and affiliated societies' rules and procedures. Staff, volunteers, and clients are part of a team and expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner. This means that physical harm, verbal or written abuse, harassment of any kind, and any bullying behaviour will not be tolerated. Anyone found to have committed conduct prohibited by the societies is subject to disciplinary actions as deemed fit by the Executive Director, up to and including removal from the programs.
