***UPDATE ***

Due to circumstances outside our control, the format for the Accessible Community Forum has changed. The event will now be presented online through Zoom. Anyone who has registered will receive a Zoom link on the morning of October 23rd to attend the session. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and look forward to seeing everyone online next Wednesday.

On October 23rd, 2024, join us on Zoom from 1:00 – 3:00 PM PT for our next Accessible Community Forum on Disability and the Media, to discover our community’s thoughts and experiences around representation and inclusivity in our current media culture.

This forum will address the representation of disabilities in the media. We will discuss important topics, such as fostering more diverse disability narratives, and how we can enhance honest representation within the media industry.

The panelists for the coming Accessible Community Forum include:

  • HOST: Amy Amantea an Artist, Actor and Advocate for Persons with Disabilities
  • Susanna Uchatius Artistic Director at Theatre Terrific
  • Katie MacMillan Founder of Kello Inclusive
  • Grant Hardy Producer at Accessible Media Inc.
  • Tilly Nelson Photographer and avocate for equal representation
  • Ladan Sahraei Iranian-Canadian deaf actress, director and filmmaker

Your input is crucial in driving positive change within the landscape of media representation in Canada. Let’s work together to create a more inclusive and empowering environment for all members of our community.

Thank you for your participation, and we look forward to seeing you at the forum!

You are the expert of your experience. Be heard.

About the Disability Foundation: Established in 1985 and based in Vancouver, B.C., the Disability Foundation strives to support people with physical disabilities by supporting accessible programs to enjoy outdoor activities, make social connections, and access personalized adapted devices. With the support of our well-rounded, multi-disciplinary board members, our leadership team has experienced great success in empowering the disability community to reimagine what is possible.

About the ConnecTra Society: Formed in 1999 by Vancouver tetraplegic Sam Sullivan, the ConnecTra Society is a connecting agency linking people with physical disabilities to activities and programs that will, over time, allow them to grow, gain confidence and become increasingly more active and involved in community life. We aim to get all people with significant disabilities living in British Columbia as socially active and engaged as possible through our workshops and other resources.

Have something to share? We would love to have you contribute!

We’re always looking for more people and organizations to host interesting and engaging live disability focused webinars. If you have an idea for a workshop or presentation, we would love to hear from you.

Please email: info@connectra.org.
