Plan Institute and Supporting Access to Benefits

Come learn about Plan Institute on January 27th from 12-1pm PST, with Liss Cairns!

Plan Institute is a national nonprofit’s free support around the most common disability benefits and planning topics, including more information about the upcoming $200/month Canada Disability Benefit.

Liss is a neurodivergent nonbinary person who has had lifelong mental health related disabilities and is currently their wife’s caregiver. They graduated in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Psychology from SFU and were provided with their first professional disability-centered experience through the university’s cooperative education program in 2017.

Liss is the Program Manager at Plan Institute, where their work includes managing PI’s free national Disability Planning Helpline Service; managing the Wills, Trusts, and Estate Planning workshops; supporting the Access RDSP program in collaboration with Disability Alliance BC (DABC) and BC Aboriginal Network on Disability Society (BCANDS); and assisting with the Disability Without Poverty movement wherever possible.

Participation in any of the aforementioned organizations is subject to the observance of the Disability Foundation and affiliated societies' rules and procedures. Staff, volunteers, and clients are part of a team and expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner. This means that physical harm, verbal or written abuse, harassment of any kind, and any bullying behaviour will not be tolerated. Anyone found to have committed conduct prohibited by the societies is subject to disciplinary actions as deemed fit by the Executive Director, up to and including removal from the programs.
